TERMINAL 5 - PASSENGER'S EYE VIEW
27 September 2007

Heathrow's stunning new Terminal 5 is due to open next March - totally transforming the airport's persona.
With the launch six months away, we take a passengers-eye view of the departure facilities. The Terminal will be used exclusively by British Airways.
The camera moves from the exterior of the building, through the access bridge and into the departures area, dominated by self-serve check in facilities.
It then moves through the security point into the airside area, due to become the home of many big-name retail and catering outlets.
We take a brief look at the cavernous baggage reclaim area before boarding the underground transit system to take us to the satellite building Terminal 5B.
Terminal 5 will totally transform British Airways' operation at Heathrow and lead to a smoother, more efficient passenger experience. Many more BA transit passengers will be able to transfer flights without changing terminals - a significant feature at a hub airport like Heathrow.
Features include 96 self-serve check in facilities. 140 service desks including 96 fast bag drops and six lounge areas for premium passengers.
Terminal 5 will be home for the vast bulk of BA flights although around 8 per cent of them, including the Australian services, will operate from Terminal 3.
